ABOUT ME

Νektaria Karantzi is an acclaimed Byzantine and Traditional singer from Greece.
Having made a remarkable impact around the world with her discography in Byzantine music, Nektaria became famous when she was child, when she accompanied, chanting Byzantine hymns, the blessed Elder Porphyrios, one of the greatest spiritual luminaries of Greece and of the Orthodox world.

She studied Law at the University of Thessalonica, undertook postgraduates in Penal and in Ecclesiastical Law at the University of Athens and is a candidate doctor of Law at the University of Athens. She has a degree in Byzantine Music, having been taught by notable tutors, such and especially Mr. Dimitris Verykios and teaches Byzantine music at conservatoires of Athens. She is a chorister in church, since 9 years. She was taught traditional singing by the acknowledged interpreter and great Master of Greek Traditional music, Chronis Aidonidis, and has been, over the past years, his permanent collaborator in concerts and recordings. She has studied the piano as well as western musical theory, under significant tutors, and has followed phonetics courses by the singers Thanos Petrakis and Dina Goudioti.

As regards to recordings, she started, participating in a series of five CDs, chanting Byzantine hymns, from the age of 14 already accompanying the blessed Elder Porphyrios. She also collaborated in recordings with Chronis Aidonidis, and she has a remarkable personal discography in byzantine and greek traditional music.

She appears in select concerts in Greece and internationally, interpreting traditional songs from Greece and Byzantine ecclesiastical hymns. Some special times of concerts and public appearances were:
- in 2004, when she participated in the Concert of Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, at the Theological School of Chalki, under the aegis of His All-Holiness Bartholomew.
- Also, in 2006, when she appeared in the great Concert of Apostolic Diakonia of Church of Greece, at the Athens Concert Hall, under the aegis of blessed Archbishop Christodoulos of Athens.
Some other special times was also:
- in 2006 when she participated in the 6th Festival of Sacred Music in the island of Apocalypse, Patmos (Greece)
- in 2009, when she gave a concert and a Master Class about the byzantine music, at Sorbonne University of Paris (France)
- in 2012, when she participated in the Concert with the great traditional singer Marta Sebestyen and St Ephraim male Choir, in the Basilica of St Stephen (Budapest, Hungary)
- in 2012, when she gave a Master Class, about the byzantine music, at the famous Franz Liszt Academy of Music (Budapest, Hungary)

Nektaria has also been involved in several television projects, such as the "Epikranthi" series(2005) filmed in Athens for ERT1, dedicated to Byzantine hymns of the Holly Week.

She has teached in international master classes, about byzantine music, such as in SORBONNE UNIVERSITY of PARIS and FRANZ LISZT ACADEMY OF MUSIC (Budapest, Hungary).

In theses days, she collaborate with the internationally acclaimed concert pianist, composer and conductor and recording artist of ECM, Vassilis Tsabropoulos, in a program dedicated to the Psalms of David.
